Whether you are a current Myrtle Beach or Grand Strand resident, or a soon-to-be resident, you want to feel and be safe, correct?
Local Crime Rates! Indeed.
Don’t we ALL want to SAFE?
If you add the keywords ‘Myrtle Beach Crime Rate’ in your Google search bar, you will find that both ‘high’ and violent’ are words associated with it.
That is not a good sign, is it?
Upon further search, we also discovered that Myrtle Beach was listed on a ‘most dangerous cities in U.S.’ list that frankly is not very flattering to our beach!
Sadly, this article which takes the top spot in the aforementioned Google search was republished by Myrtle Beach online, our local newspaper.
But what if you actually do not live in the city of Myrtle Beach?
What if you live in Socastee, or North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Garden City or Conway or any of the surrounding areas?
We asked ourselves these questions:
Does it matter what the number of murders is in any given month, how many people are arrested for drugs, prostitution, vandalism or petty crimes in Myrtle Beach?
Yes, and no.
Fortunately, we have found a few good ways to put these stats and crime rates in perspective.
First and foremost, be informed and don’t wait for people to give you (skewed) information! Go to the source(s) and keep going back for updated info.
Here are some places we at Strand Security go to to find the latest crime rate and crime stats for the Myrtle Beach area and the Grand Strand.
As you look at the stats and keep a close eye on the crime rate, you will see that many incidences of crime happen near the tourist areas of the Grand Strand. Meaning – near Ocean Boulevard, and near hotels, tourist attractions and at construction sites. That does not mean crime doesn’t happen in neighborhoods around the Grand Strand, but a large concentration of crime happens in areas that are deemed ‘tourist’ areas.
