3 Homeowner Stories. Being Thankful for Security Cameras

Today we want to share three stories of homeowners who are thankful for their security cameras. It is November and a great time be thankful for technology and home security systems.

If you are a homeowner and you are lucky enough not to have had the need of a home security system, or have not had an emergency in your home that warranted a call to police, fire or ambulance, you are indeed lucky!

thankful for security cameras

Let’s hear the 3 homeowner stories how their Ring Cameras saved lives: a father, pets and teenagers!

My Ring Camera Saved My Life. Joey’s Story

We found this story on YouTube and Ring also wrote about it here.

Joey was home alone when he collapsed on his front porch on a hot summer day in Texas. Thank goodness he had a Ring camera! His son saw his dad, called mom who was out of town, who alerted a neighbor who called emergency services! Phew.

We are so glad that Joey is ok and that his Ring Camera saved the day!

A Passing Jogger Saves the Pets and a Home from Fire

This man is a hero!

While out jogging, he saw smoke and decided to take a detour to check it out. Good thing he did! He saw fire! After ringing the Ring doorbell, he first gets a recorded message saying the homeowners are not home. But the homeowner who wasn’t home, got an alert and answered the doorbell from a remote location.

ONce she saw the smoke coming out of her home, she begged the jogger to go inside and rescue her pets. Two dogs, a rabbit and a cat. He did! Due to his quick action he not only saved the pets, he also saved the home.

What a wonderful story! Make sure to watch the video.

Home Security Cameras, a Home Invasion and Parents Who Watch it unfold LIVE

This is one of the craziest stories!

As parents are out to dinner, three teenagers are home  alone. Then gunmen appear and a home invasion is caught on camera and is livestreamed to the parent’s phone. They are able to call the police and then talk to these home invaders, warning them that the police is on the way.

This is a chilling one to watch.

Imagine what would have happened if they did not have these camera in their home! Police credit the camera system for the quick retreat of the criminals.

Phew. We got serious chills watching this video. We are glad the teens survived this home invasion.

How To Prevent a Home Invasion!

Prevention, prevention, prevention.

1) Display a Security Company Sign

It should go without saying that you do not just display the sign, but you actually have a security system and activate it every night and during the day when you are home or gone.

2) Use Deadbolt Locks and Long Screws

The long screws will prevent someone from kicking in the door and breaking the deadbolt lock! Check your screws – it’s a simple and cheap fix for a real security breach.

3) Purchase and Install Solid Wood Core Doors

Again, solid wood core doors are almost impossible to kick in. When it’s time to replace doors, choose wisely.

4) Keep Windows Closed and Locked at Night

Make sure to instruct your (young) children and teens to do so as well – it’s easy to overlook the kids rooms.

5) Install Motion Activated Floodlights

These lights will pop on anytime something, or someone, is trying to approach your home. It’s an easy deterrent and also might alert you to impending trouble.

6) Keep Your Garage Door Closed and Locked

Make it a habit to lock up at night and check your garage doors!

7) Keep Shrubs Trimmed and Short Near Windows

You certainly don’t want anyone lurking in your bushes, right? Keeping them short and trimmed prevents someone from using your shrubs as a hiding spot prior to a break-in.

8) Leave Your Spare Key With A Neighbor, Not Outside Your Home

Many burglars enter homes without ever having to kick in a door or break a window because they’ve found an even easier way to enter – with the spare key left under a rock! Don’t do that – leave your spare key with a neighbor instead!

Tips on How To Prevent and Survive A Home Invasion

How to prevent and survive a home invasion Myrtle Beach Home Security

From Holiday Fun To Holiday Tragedy In The Blink of An Eye!

From one minute to the next, you and your family could be faced with a tragedy instead of a fun Christmas day and week.

Home invasions are more prevalent around the holidays and we are here to remind you to stay vigilant and prepared to prevent a home invasion from happening. If an intruder does happen to invade your home, we want you to know what to do!

Here is a scenario that might sound familiar to you.

Busiest Time of The Year at Your Home!

Maybe you had a new dishwasher installed so that when company is here for Christmas, you are prepared.
Maybe you had an installer in your home to replace your washer and dryer as a gift to yourself.
Maybe you had an HVAC mechanic in your home to do your winter HVAC maintenance.
Maybe UPS, FEDEX or the USPS stopped by with deliveries of long-expected packages.
Really… people in and out of your home all day, all week.
People might even have noticed the hustle and bustle from outside of your home, noticing the deliveries made as they drove by.
You didn’t really keep track of everybody, right?
It’s the perfect storm scenario!
Someone, somewhere might have noticed your lack of a security system.
Someone, somewhere might have noticed your lack of a dog.
Someone, somewhere might have noticed your valuables like TVs, computers and expensive phones.
Someone, somewhere might have noticed your expensive watch and diamond ring.
It really doesn’t matter how it happened, but somehow you ended up on a home invasion hit list!
A home invasion is an illegal and usually forceful entry to an occupied, private dwelling with intent to commit a violent crime against the occupants, such as robbery, assault, rape, murder, or kidnapping

Home Invasion Do’s and Don’ts

If you THINK or KNOW someone has entered your home and they haven’t spotted you, there are things to do IMMEDIATELY.
If your dog sounds the alarm, don’t ignore but check it out! Often they can hear or spot an intruder before you do!
Listen to your gut and take action.
  • Get your kids and spouse and go!
  • Leave the home by a backdoor if possible or lock yourself in a room, bathroom or closet and call 911 immediately. Stay on the phone with them until police arrive.
We asked the police what we can we do as homeowners to prevent a home invasion from happening.
Here is what they told us.
1. Lights, Lights, LIGHTS! (Burglars and intruders love dark areas)
2. Alarms (Make sure to set yours if you have a system!)
3. Neighborhood watches are great deterrents.
5. Install cameras to check in to your home even if you aren’t home.

Be Safe. Be Secure. Be Alert!

We hope your holidays are happy and bright, merry and fun and that a home invasion is not something you have to deal with.

We recommend going over a family emergency plan with your kids and spouse yearly and discuss fires, home invasions, burglaries, floods and other disasters with your family.

A prepared family has a much greater chance of survival!

From our family to yours this holiday season…
