While we know what you need, and we certainly encourage you to come to us and ask questions, you might need to learn more about your option before you speak with us.
In this blog, we will explain 7 types of commercial security systems. if you have questions, please ask!
Your security. Our business!
Security cameras and video surveillance equipment allow for real-time monitoring of the commercial building. Hospitals, Schools, Universities – most if not all use video surveillance systems to track visitors and employees in real-time.
Secure the premises and keep employees safe with a commercial security alarm system. A commercial security alarm system is made up of many components – and is customized to each customers’ needs.
Access control systems allow for screening of employees and visitors and give them different levels of access, electronically. The preset system determines who gains entry to your commercial building. Access control systems lets you choose authorized credentials that can unlock doors, buildings and vehicles.
Commercial fire safety systems are mandated by building codes, local laws and requirements, and other factors. Fire and emergency systems are in place to allow for immediate alerts throughout the building, quick exits and immediate access for emergency responders.
While Strand Security does not specialize in cybersecurity systems, we would be remiss to leave this system out! Cybersecurity systems includes systems for data encryption, anti-virus software, traffic monitoring and computer firewall protection if needed.
Housing communities, commercial parking spaces, hospital parking lots… what they have in common is that they may need to be gated for limited access by vehicles to manage guest and visitors, as well as employees and residents. Other commercial spaces that might need gated access systems include airports, restaurants, sport complexes and more. Gated access systems are put into place to prevent theft and vandalism, and can provide peace of mind by offering 24/7 security.
Laboratoriums, hospitals and other temperature controlled spaces… they are all prime candidates for sensor systems. Door and window contact sensors notify business owners or managers when a door or window opens, or if it’s left ajar for a certain amount of time. Besides contact sensors, different sensor systems use infrared sensors, laser sensors and microwave sensors for commercial space security.

Have you dealt with
✔️employee theft?
✔️counterfit money?
✔️ loitering around your building?
✔️vandalism?
✔️break-ins?
If so, installing, maintaining and monitoring a commercial security system is the way to go.
If your real estate investment does not include owning a business, but you do own the building, we recommend you talk to those business owners leasing the building from you to make sure they are protecting your assets along with theirs!
Do you have a commercial building, a business AND employees? Then the very last thing you want to hear is that there has been an ‘incident’ at your business, right?
Whether it is a phone call from your employee, or a call from the police, as soon as you hear this message, you know that you and your business are in trouble.
If you are the owner or CEO of a brick and mortar store, a restaurant, a gas station, a bank, a school, a church or a service provider with a fleet of trucks and a slew of employees, you never want harm to come to your employees, correct?
Learn more about how to protect your employees here.
We can’t say enough about having security cameras for your commercial real estate investment. Having a record of what is going on, having a record of what went wrong, and having a record of wrongdoings is the first step in getting insurance to pay out when you have a claim on your real estate investment!

Who doesn’t remember the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” commercial? Did you know these LifeCall commercials started running on TV in 1987?
Be honest, when we say ‘panic button’ is that the image you have? This ‘panic button’ for LIfeCall was for a medical alert system.
This same concept of ‘instant alert’ is now affordable and available to anyone, anywhere and anytime, for both personal and commercial use. Let’s look at some user stories of panic buttons and how they are NOT just for senior citizens!
After a rise in aggressive patient behavior during the Covid pandemic, a Missouri hospital took seemingly drastic steps to keep their staff safe and secure by providing panic buttons!
From the video:
After an increasing number of patients became violent at Cox Medical Center in Missouri staff members were given personal panic buttons. The buttons use a GPS tracking system so security can locate employees when they are in trouble.
You’ve seen this in movies, for sure, but did you know panic buttons at banks are standard?
This is how panic buttons at banks work:
Banks can hide a silent-alarm button on the side of a desk, under the teller counter or inside a safe. Some companies offer emergency buttons disguised as a key fob or a pendant. As soon as an employee flips the switch, it triggers the control panel at the alarm company. Some companies let the bank designate special buttons for particular emergencies. One button can be set to tell the company to send for paramedics rather than police, for example.
In this article about gas station safety, panic buttons are mentioned as a ‘must-have’ safety net. Often, gas station attendants work alone. Personal safety is important when a co-worker is not available as a back up.
- Make sure the panic button is within reach. There should be a panic button installed at the clerk counter in case of an emergency, such as theft or gunfire. Make sure that you know exactly where it is and that you can access it easily.
Heather of Strand Security knew the importance of panic buttons. Her husband had his own security company and she’s begged her boss (at a retail store) to install panic buttons.
He did not.
Read Heather’s story of survival when she was robbed at gunpoint. She credits a high school self-defense class as helping her survive. She also knows that if she’d had a panic button to push, she might not have had to fight for her life!
If you have already have a security system in place, and have 24/7 monitoring of your system, adding panic buttons is an easy way to add another layer of security!
Place the panic button in your bathroom or bedroom, basement or any place you want. Ask us and we ca help you chose the best spots!
We can also supply you with a portable, wearable panic button. NOTE: These will only work when your system is enabled, of course. Another reason to always arm your system!

What is a business owner to do?
We have 3 tips to share with you today. Tips that will simultaneously deter criminals and will give your staff and customers peace of mind.
First, let’s go over some basic parking lot safety tips for those who park their cars.
The first and best tip we have for you to keep your staff as well as your customers safe it to hire a security company to install a complete commercial security system.
A professionally installed system will allow you to keep tabs on inventory, customers and staff as they work for you.
Such a system would include security cameras and a mobile app integration, as well as smart technology to keep all the part working together to allow you to monitor from afar.
Having video recording of a possible crime will help speed up the stolen product recovery process. Cameras as well as security signs with a “monitored by XYZ Security Company” help to deter criminals from even approaching your business!
Not all security systems include lighting: we highly recommend installing security light systems in your parking lot. Some of the lights should include sensor flood lights that are activated as criminals approach the building.
Other lights should provide ample light for customers and staff to feel safe enough to walk to their car in the dark.
Last but not least, we give you one more tip to keep your staff and customers safe in the parking lot.
Organize a self-defense class for your staff. This can be a powerful way to make your staff feel more secure, more confident and more self-assured when working late at night or alone. Self-defense classes are a great team building activity!
Many of our customers come to us as victims of crime. We are always so sorry to hear about their ordeal and their trauma. Some, not all, crime is preventable. Putting safeguards in place before a crime takes place can prevent a lot of heartache, headaches and trauma, and we aren’t even talking money yet!
