A home security system can stand between a homeowner and a happy outcome when disaster strikes. On the South Carolina coastline in the Grand Strand area, a disaster might mean the occurrence of a hurricane, or a flood.
In other parts of the country, disaster might include tornadoes or earthquakes.
Today, let’s celebrate 10 reasons to love monitored security systems.
With a monitored security system, help is dispatched whether you are able to communicate with emergency services, or if you are incapacitated!
The same is true when someone in your home has a medical emergency. With just the push of a button you can summon help! Seconds can make the difference between a good outcome and a disastrous one especially when the emergency is a matter of life or death like during a heart attack, a near drowning or a lightning strike.
Do you sleep soundly at night? What happens when your fire alarm goes off? Do you call the fire station, rescue your family, rescue your pets, rescue your belongings? What if you ONLY had to think about rescuing your family and pets, knowing that the fire department is already on their way? That is what happens when you have a monitored system! The fire department is dispatched while you are getting out of the house!
Time is of the essence during a fire emergency. A monitored system will give you that little bit of extra time!
Carbon monoxide poisoning is deadly – and silent. Installing carbon monoxide detectors is step one to home safety, having these alarms hardwired to your monitored alarm so when you are incapacitated due to carbon monoxide poisoning, is even better!
With a monitored system, the burden of always looking over your shoulder for danger is not on you. Having a second set of eyes on your home, your car, your pool area, your business is the best way to protect assets you care about.
With a monitored security system even if you can’t reach someone at home during an emergency, the monitoring company will do their best to reach someone or send help immediately!
Did you know that most insurance companies offer discounts to homeowners who have a monitored system because they know that a monitored home is a safer home?
A monitored security system gives you peace of mind when you are home – alone or with your family. You can go about your day and know that if someone enters your home unexpectedly, or is a fire starts, that help is on the way! this is especially true for night time!
At the same time, peace of mind comes when traveling if you have a monitored security system. The monitoring company will replay any issues to you in real time, no matter where you are, as long as you can be reached by phone! How awesome is that?

While 2020 has been a weird year for all of us, we are still grateful for a tenth anniversary year.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, we’ve been blogging all year in a series we call ‘10 reasons to love‘. As this is month ten, this is the tenth installment of a 12-month series!

Let’s get started with October’s edition!
The weather is so fine we can spend hour upon hours on our porches. Our friends and family join us as we sit and watch neighbors mow the lawn, kids play outside and friends walk their dog. Everyone wave and time just seems to stand still. If you are lucky, you’ll be invited on the porch to have a glass of iced tea!
Nothing says South Carolina like sweet tea. It’s a staple in all southern homes and visitors are offered a tall glass of cold, refreshing sweet tea. Don’t confuse sweet tea with hot tea or *gasp* ask for unsweetened tea! Drink is sweet, like the people of this state!
When you are home, you are family. When you are brought into a home as a stranger or a friend, you leave as family! Southern families embrace their visitors and will make you feel oh so special!
While the sounds of southern voices might seem sweet, don’t be fooled by ‘Bless her Heart’. Expect rich conversations, gentle scolding and strong opinions about God, country and freedom.
While Southerns might have a different opinion than you do, they will wrap it all up in a nice and polite package! They will stay calm cool and collected. Etiquette dictates they keep their cool and stay polite no matter what, offering southern hospitality even if you agree to disagree. They’ll Bless you Heart, and will remain polite.
Southern foods are rich in tradition, and butter! Southern foods are plentiful and delicious. They include okra, greens, Fried Chicken, black-eye peas, hush puppies and BBQ.
While we love our K & W and Cracker Barrel there is no substitute for home cooked meals! Getting invited to Thanksgiving Dinner or Christmas means getting double, triple of all your favorite sides and desserts as southern cooks go all out to please their families.
Living in the south means you understand southern charm. Sweet Meemaws who love and spoil their grandkids, ladies who sat through hours of cotillion to learn not only the right etiquette, but also how to charm just about anyone, anywhere at any time!
People in the south take care of their own, and then some! They share what they have, no matter how little with those less fortunate. Charity is learned in Sunday school classes, in the home and is continued at work! Many adults are involved in charitable organizations making the lives of other southerns just a bit better.
The south, and of course South Carolina is steeped in tradition. If you live here, you know! High school football games are huge. Homecoming is better in South Carolina than anywhere else. Tradition seeps into every aspect of life in the south.
Strand Security has been serving the people of the Myrtle Beach area, including all of Horry County and Georgetown County for over 10 years! We live where we work. There are many different types of South Carolina Barbecue, but they all start with pork!
In South Carolina, that meat is invariably pork — sometimes pulled from a whole hog, sometimes chopped from a slow-smoked shoulder or ham, but always deriving from somewhere on the pig. In fact, try this experiment. Take a South Carolinian to a barbecue buffet (there is not shortage of such operations in the Palmetto State) and ask him or her, “go get me some barbecue.” What you’re going to get back is guaranteed. The steam table may be loaded down with ribs, chicken quarters, and maybe even sliced brisket, but unless they just recently moved to the state from Ohio, your dining companion is certain to bring you back a plate piled high with pork.
Southern houses and porches – the perfect pair!
Our lovely weather is conducive to long evenings on the porch. Unless you live in one of our cities in a small apartment, most South Carolina houses feature a front (or rear) porch as a must-have outdoor room!
There are so many wonderful State parks, beaches, lakes and other nature-rich areas to explore in South Carolina.

We at Strand Security are celebrating 10 years on the Grand Strand!
So many wonderful things have happened to our Strand families, our business and within our community! We can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to share our wonderful community with you.
We arrived in 2010 to start a new life in South Carolina; to kick off this year-long celebration, let’s count the ways we love the Grand Strand.
With over 60 miles of beaches, the Grand Strand spans from the Winyah Bay in the south to Little River in the north; it is an arc of beach land on the Atlantic Ocean in South Carolina, United States.
With over 60 miles of beaches, you will find a beach you love.
Did you know…
The Grand Strand is home to 90 (yes, ninety) golf courses?
That’s a huge number and a huge variety of places to play. There is a course for every golfer, whether you are a beginner or a life-longer player, or somewhere in between
While we are at it, we looked for the number of minigolf courses. While it was harder to find a number, it is at least 30 by this account.
Ready to tee up?!
While the beach and golf are the two main attractions for tourists, there are many more ways to entertain the family when visiting, or living on the Grand Strand.
and so much more! Did we mention the golf courses?
When the sun goes down the fun begins.
Fireworks can be seen on many evenings at Broadway at the Beach and/or Barefoot Landing, attracting thousands of visitors to come to eat and play.
Don’t forget to check out Family Kingdom as the fun just begins when the sun disappears! Ride the old wooden coaster ‘The Swamp Fox’ or try your luck playing carnival games.
Did you know…
While it was always known as ‘the family beach’, Surfside Beach now has another beautiful title to uphold. Surfside Beach was listed as one of the Top 10 best family beaches!
The Grand Strand is simply a beautiful place to visit and live.
No matter your taste, there’s a place for you at one of the many tables on the Grand Strand.
While the Grand Strand offers large chain restaurant access like Margaritaville, TGI Fridays, 5 Guys and Friendly’s, there are plenty of spots that less overcrowded and less corporate.
No matter your taste, when living on the Grand Strand you will eat well.
Murrells Inlet is called the Seafood Capital of South Carolina!
It wasn’t always as family-friendly as it is today though. In the 1800s, pirates hid in the inlet creeks waiting to plunder unsuspecting English ships. You may have heard of one in particular called Blackbeard.
While you can go fishing, crabbing or even scuba diving, why not lay on the beach all day and come eat seafood at night in one of many restaurants on the Marsh Walk?
“Southern hospitality is a phrase used in American English to describe the stereotype of residents of the Southern United States as particularly warm, sweet, and welcoming to visitors to their homes, or to the South in general.”
And friendly we are!
If you’ve never experienced it, you’ve been missing out.
We simply can’t deny that living on the Grand Strand is… grand! While Strand Security and our family have been residents for 10 years, we’ve realized what a great deal we have here in the south!
Homes are affordable, as are groceries and other living expenses; the cost of living in South Carolina due to low taxes is a huge attraction for new residents. The lure of these beautiful yet affordable southern homes brings many northerners to our beloved Grand Strand.
