We are almost into the second quarter of 2022. Spring is here and we are looking ahead to what else is to come in 2022. Myrtle Beach, Horry County and Georgetown county are booming!
Houses can not be built quickly enough for the demand. Older homes are getting facelifts and updates while new homes and whole new developments are popping out of the ground like mushrooms.
While we love the Grand Strand – we live and work here just like you – we are well aware that crime rates go up when the number of residents keep increasing.
Home security along, with location, is a huge factor when looking at who might be a victim of crime and criminal activity. While you can’t always just up and move your home to a new, better, more secure neighborhood, you CAN update your home with the latest trends and technology.
Myrtle Beach and Grand Strand Residents: Here are the 2022 home security trends you don’t want to miss!
Homeowners are waking up to the fact that technology is here to stay and technology is our friend – and can make our lives so much easier.
While smart homes and smart home technology isn’t new, there are a few trends to look for in 2022.
They include
Back in 2017 we wrote about drones as part of looking ahead to future security concerns. We quote:
“New technology will enable drones to be part of your home security system – if not now, in the very near future!
In this article in Digital Trends we read about a new home security system that deploys a drone to patrol your property! Sounds like something out of a sci-fi book? Think again! The technology is here and soon most, if not all, security systems will have this capability. This article predicts
“The idea of a security camera that doesn’t fly will seem like the dark ages.”
That will be an amazing day…!“
Well – it’s here. It took only 5 years, but we now do have drones with security cameras that can be employed with smart home technology to scout your property! It’s a new trends for 2022 and an exciting one to boot!
We love love love automation – but there are so many options! Google, Apple, Ring…
What coming is more ways to link to any smart speaker and provide you with full control across multiple environments.
We predict you can expect the security of your home to be more streamlined and connected to all other smart home devices in the near future.
Mentioned above in #1, the newest trends is facial recognition with the assistance of AI, for home security. This will replace keyless entry with number pad or fingerprint and over into to facial recognition for optimal security!
This is a new service that will come into being: not just home security monitoring, but actual video monitoring services.
With regular home security monitoring, an alert goes out when an armed door or window is unlocked or opened, or when there is movement if sensors are activated.
Remote video monitoring would include constant monitoring in real time offered as a service to those who want peace of mind – think elderly parent living home alone, or a preteen home after school.
We stay on top of the latest trends, brands and technology so you don’t have to. Come talk to us.
Another offering that we might see more of from 2022 is remote video monitoring services. This ensures potential emergencies and criminal activity can be spotted and prevented before they become a bigger problem.
Who doesn’t remember the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” commercial? Did you know these LifeCall commercials started running on TV in 1987?
Be honest, when we say ‘panic button’ is that the image you have? This ‘panic button’ for LIfeCall was for a medical alert system.
This same concept of ‘instant alert’ is now affordable and available to anyone, anywhere and anytime, for both personal and commercial use. Let’s look at some user stories of panic buttons and how they are NOT just for senior citizens!
After a rise in aggressive patient behavior during the Covid pandemic, a Missouri hospital took seemingly drastic steps to keep their staff safe and secure by providing panic buttons!
From the video:
After an increasing number of patients became violent at Cox Medical Center in Missouri staff members were given personal panic buttons. The buttons use a GPS tracking system so security can locate employees when they are in trouble.
You’ve seen this in movies, for sure, but did you know panic buttons at banks are standard?
This is how panic buttons at banks work:
Banks can hide a silent-alarm button on the side of a desk, under the teller counter or inside a safe. Some companies offer emergency buttons disguised as a key fob or a pendant. As soon as an employee flips the switch, it triggers the control panel at the alarm company. Some companies let the bank designate special buttons for particular emergencies. One button can be set to tell the company to send for paramedics rather than police, for example.
In this article about gas station safety, panic buttons are mentioned as a ‘must-have’ safety net. Often, gas station attendants work alone. Personal safety is important when a co-worker is not available as a back up.
- Make sure the panic button is within reach. There should be a panic button installed at the clerk counter in case of an emergency, such as theft or gunfire. Make sure that you know exactly where it is and that you can access it easily.
Heather of Strand Security knew the importance of panic buttons. Her husband had his own security company and she’s begged her boss (at a retail store) to install panic buttons.
He did not.
Read Heather’s story of survival when she was robbed at gunpoint. She credits a high school self-defense class as helping her survive. She also knows that if she’d had a panic button to push, she might not have had to fight for her life!
If you have already have a security system in place, and have 24/7 monitoring of your system, adding panic buttons is an easy way to add another layer of security!
Place the panic button in your bathroom or bedroom, basement or any place you want. Ask us and we ca help you chose the best spots!
We can also supply you with a portable, wearable panic button. NOTE: These will only work when your system is enabled, of course. Another reason to always arm your system!
Call us to start a conversation about panic buttons!
When planning to move to a new state, city or neighborhood, it usually pays to read up on local news, local crime and local events to get an idea on what’s happening! You want to be prepared for anything and everything, right?
The population growth in the Myrtle Beach area aka The Grand Strand shows no sign of slowing down: we have welcomed a lot of new residents in the last 18 months and there is no sign that things are slowing down anytime soon.
The housing market along the beach is competitive, houses are built left, right and everywhere in between and frankly, the roadways are busier than we’ve even seen them before!
If you are planning to move to the Grand Strand in the near future, or if you’ve just arrived, keep reading!
If you are still in the planning phase of moving to the Myrtle Beach area, may we suggest you read up on several topics.
Read about
If you’ve arrived on the Grand Strand and getting your bearings, you already know and might have experienced some of the challenges that come with a growing community like ours.
Congested roads, overcrowded school, a competitive housing market driving prices up, up and up and increased crime are all part of this growing community along South Carolina’s beautiful shoreline.
It’s simple math:
More houses are being bought and sold, the population is growing steadily, Horry and Georgetown Counties are building more schools, roads and hospitals – and with all these new people moving in, crime rates are going… UP!
The Myrtle Beach area has been a draw for those criminals who want to hide for years and years. As millions and millions of tourists pour into the Grand Strand each year, hiding out is an easy thing to accomplish! The transient community that is Myrtle Beach is a perfect place for petty criminals, human traffickers, thieves and convicted felons.
In this 2021 article, we read
According to the FBI’s latest US Crime Report, Myrtle Beach, SC is now officially the 3rd most dangerous city in the United States.
The best way to keep your neighborhood safe is to communicate and take preventative action. Even if you live in a safe neighborhood, it’s important to understand the risks you run by not protecting your home.
Here is the best way to keep your neighborhood safe: communicate with law enforcement officers and with neighbors. Then take action!
Did you know that most people purchase a home security system AFTER they are the victim of a crime? Why wait? Why go through this trauma, this anxiety, if it can be prevented? The same is true for your neighborhood! Why wait until cars are broken into, or vandals destroy property?
We suggest a neighborhood watch program as described here.
The last thing we want to mention is… that crime happens.
You can’t prevent crime, but by being prepared, you can prevent the severity of the crime – and reduce the time it takes for law enforcement officers to come to the crime scene, increasing the chance the criminals are caught!
Our clients homes are monitored by COPS Monitoring and have been for the past 10+ years!
The crime rate in Myrtle Beach, the Grand Strand, Horry County and Georgetown County is high. Business owners on the Grand Strand and in the Myrtle Beach area need to stay vigilant to keep their staff and customers safe from harm.
Crime on businesses include
During some of these incidents, the safety of staff and customers was in jeopardy.
What is a business owner to do?
We have 3 tips to share with you today. Tips that will simultaneously deter criminals and will give your staff and customers peace of mind.
First, let’s go over some basic parking lot safety tips for those who park their cars.
The first and best tip we have for you to keep your staff as well as your customers safe it to hire a security company to install a complete commercial security system.
A professionally installed system will allow you to keep tabs on inventory, customers and staff as they work for you.
Such a system would include security cameras and a mobile app integration, as well as smart technology to keep all the part working together to allow you to monitor from afar.
Having video recording of a possible crime will help speed up the stolen product recovery process. Cameras as well as security signs with a “monitored by XYZ Security Company” help to deter criminals from even approaching your business!
Not all security systems include lighting: we highly recommend installing security light systems in your parking lot. Some of the lights should include sensor flood lights that are activated as criminals approach the building.
Other lights should provide ample light for customers and staff to feel safe enough to walk to their car in the dark.
Last but not least, we give you one more tip to keep your staff and customers safe in the parking lot.
Organize a self-defense class for your staff. This can be a powerful way to make your staff feel more secure, more confident and more self-assured when working late at night or alone. Self-defense classes are a great team building activity!
Many of our customers come to us as victims of crime. We are always so sorry to hear about their ordeal and their trauma. Some, not all, crime is preventable. Putting safeguards in place before a crime takes place can prevent a lot of heartache, headaches and trauma, and we aren’t even talking money yet!
Please contact us today and we’ll get your staff and customers the best protection we can offer!
As we publish this, summer 2021 is fast approaching. Spring weather has turned into summer weather. Pools are open. School are nearly done for the year. And as the USA is slowly opening back up after a pandemic year, families are most ready than ever to hit the road and take a vacation.
Homeowners who travel leave behind a huge asset: their home that they love, care for and have invested a ton of money into. This is why protecting the home you love and everything in it is important. A burglary, or break Ins will leave you feeling violated and attacked!
Who doesn’t want to go on vacation this summer, without worry?!
We all want this right?
In order for a burglar to ‘skip your home’ and move onto the next, you need to be proactive! Make your home less attractive to a potential criminal.
Reducing the risk of a break ins and making it harder and less attractive for a burglar to target you, is not a difficult task. It does take a bit of planning and action on your part. We are going to give you several actionable ways you can help prevent a home break in while on vacation.
In previous blog articles, we’ve shared our best summer security tips. It’s always good to revisit some of these tips and hints as we enter the next summer. We know as you do, that family circumstances changes quickly!
The following 5 action items should be high on your list of things to do to prepare before going on your next family vacation. Whether you go away for the weekend and stay close to home, vacation somewhere for two weeks in South Carolina or take a cross-country trip, these tips apply to you! It takes less than a minute for most burglars to get into your home and only 8-12 minutes to get back out and get away!
When you leave your home unattended for an extended period of time, make it look like someone is home. Leave a dog toy or two out, a child’s ball, and put your indoor and outdoor lights on timers! Arrange with a neighbor or friend to come pick up mail, packages and return your garbage can back to your home. Alternatively, you can have the USPS hold your mail. Don’t forget to notify your newspaper delivery person too because nothing says ‘we are on vacation’ like a bunch of unread newspaper on your front lawn!
Large shrubs and trees that aren’t trimmed, can hide a person (i.e. a criminal) making it easier for them to enter your home undetected. Before going on your next trip, cut back branches and trim that shrubbery!
If you have an alarm system, activate it. This might seem one of the ‘silliest’ action items, but you’d be surprised home many homes with alarm systems are broken into undetected because the system wasn’t activated! Make activating your system a habit and a priority! Teach everyone who routinely enters your home to activate your system: it will little room for error!
Making it harder for a determined burglar to breakin usually results in the burglar moving on to the next (read: easier) target! Therefore, investing in new deadbolts might make a lot of sense. The longer it takes for someone to enter the home, the more likely they are to move on to another home.
We recommend (and install) security cameras for your home. Ideally, your cameras should be strategically placed in and around your home and be connect to your monitored system. While a monitored alarm system should give you the highest level of comfort and security, monitoring your own cameras at the same time, allowes for additional visual queues of potential danger!
We wish you and your family a gorgeous summer and a wonderful and memorable trip, no matter where you go. Go with peace of mind, knowing your assets are protected and monitored by the best!
As always, let us at Strand Security know how we may help you.

We are so very proud of our growing crew of installers! They truly understand smarthome technology and do an excellent job of installing and servicing smarthome systems like the URC system. Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
A home security system can stand between a homeowner and a happy outcome when disaster strikes. On the South Carolina coastline in the Grand Strand area, a disaster might mean the occurrence of a hurricane, or a flood.
In other parts of the country, disaster might include tornadoes or earthquakes.
For everyone, no matter whether you live in South Carolina, Myrtle Beach or elsewhere, a fire or medical emergency can quickly turn into a disaster if help is not immediately dispatched.
Today, let’s celebrate 10 reasons to love monitored security systems.
First and foremost, when an intruder, thief, or burglar invades your home they have nothing but bad things in mind. If you are home when this happens, you are now in physical danger.
With a monitored security system, help is dispatched whether you are able to communicate with emergency services, or if you are incapacitated!
The same is true when someone in your home has a medical emergency. With just the push of a button you can summon help! Seconds can make the difference between a good outcome and a disastrous one especially when the emergency is a matter of life or death like during a heart attack, a near drowning or a lightning strike.
Do you sleep soundly at night? What happens when your fire alarm goes off? Do you call the fire station, rescue your family, rescue your pets, rescue your belongings? What if you ONLY had to think about rescuing your family and pets, knowing that the fire department is already on their way? That is what happens when you have a monitored system! The fire department is dispatched while you are getting out of the house!
Time is of the essence during a fire emergency. A monitored system will give you that little bit of extra time!
Carbon monoxide poisoning is deadly – and silent. Installing carbon monoxide detectors is step one to home safety, having these alarms hardwired to your monitored alarm so when you are incapacitated due to carbon monoxide poisoning, is even better!
With a monitored system, the burden of always looking over your shoulder for danger is not on you. Having a second set of eyes on your home, your car, your pool area, your business is the best way to protect assets you care about.
With monitored alarm systems like Honeywell Total Connect or Alarm.com you also have remote access to your home security cameras, allowing your to monitor what is going on in real time.
With a monitored security system even if you can’t reach someone at home during an emergency, the monitoring company will do their best to reach someone or send help immediately!
Did you know that most insurance companies offer discounts to homeowners who have a monitored system because they know that a monitored home is a safer home?
A monitored security system gives you peace of mind when you are home – alone or with your family. You can go about your day and know that if someone enters your home unexpectedly, or is a fire starts, that help is on the way! this is especially true for night time!
At the same time, peace of mind comes when traveling if you have a monitored security system. The monitoring company will replay any issues to you in real time, no matter where you are, as long as you can be reached by phone! How awesome is that?
This “10 reasons to love” article is part of a 12 month long celebration of Strand Security’s 10th anniversary!

What could go wrong in your business?
The better question to ask is ‘what could not go wrong?’
Everything and anything can happen to your location, inventory, reputation, and staff – things that you should value the most if you’ve invested in your business.
We’ve collected 7 of the most common security and safety issues we see on the commercial side of our business and we also have some solid solutions for you to implement, stat!
The safety and security of your personnel should be priority #1 for you.
We at Strand Security value our employees, and so should you. That includes giving them direct access to emergency help when needed, lights in parking lots, and a safe working environment.
Fire safety starts with leadership. You as the business owner can not pass inspection for your building without adhering to fire safety codes. Keeping everything in working order and up-to-date is important, as well as going over fire safety procedures with your staff.
Last but not least, installing a security system that is monitored and fire alarms that are hard-wired ensures that help is on the way, no matter the circumstance.
Whether you own a butcher shop, a grocery store, an office or something in between, hazardous machines can be found everywhere in a work environment.
Making sure that all equipment passes inspection and having a first-aid station ready to go, as well as an alarm system in place to call for help when needed, are great ways to keep your employees safe. It goes without saying that routine safety checks and training for new hires address this potentially hazardous equipment
No matter how hard you try, sometimes you hire the wrong people. You can’t always be aware, so installing and monitoring security cameras is a huge help in detecting vandalism and theft. Security cameras are both a deterrent as well as a solution.
Theft! Oh boy – whether it is your employees or your customers who steal, it is extremely disappointing. Having instant access to security footage – a live feed – can help you detect patterns and catch a thief in the act.
Not all robberies happen at banks. Other businesses can also be targeted – having a panic button for your employees to keep them safe is a must – just read this story of Heather who survived an armed robbery. This traumatic experience has made Heather a force to be reconned with as she is now spear-heading Myrtle beach Self Defense, but the sad part is that she has already begged her employers to install panic buttons for the safety of herself and her staff and they had simply refused.
Talk to us about protecting yourself and your staff.
Last but not least, security breaches also involve internet breaches, WiFi hacking, and other online dangers. While we do not have a solution for cybersecurity at Strand Security, we do want to help raise awareness of this growing threat against your business. Not having a secure Wifi system leaves you open for all sorts of misery.
It is almost 2019.
If you live in South Carolina as we do, you are still enjoying the weather and outdoor time as winter still has not really hit our area. We’ve been visited by a hurricane or two, and lots of rain has fallen, but temperatures have barely dipped below freezing and the sun is out on most days.
Kids are riding brand new bicycles, golf is being played and time is spent at the beach.
While you might be enjoying time away from home this holiday season, your home (and business) might be left unattended.
If you do not have a security system installed, you run the risk of losing valuables while you are away to burglars, home invaders, and vandals.
Whether someone planned to rob you, or they commit a crime of opportunity doesn’t really matter to you once this crime has happened, but there is a BIG difference between the two.
Planned robberies are hard to prevent, but a crime of opportunity is often preventable!
When you leave your home, there’s isn’t anyone to sound the alarm in case of an emergency or robbery, unless you have a monitored system in place.
We can’t stress enough how easy home and business monitoring is to set up on our end, to give you peace of mind for those times you can not be present.
We’ve worked with C.O.P.S. monitoring for years and are proud to have recently added Alarm.com to our line-up.
There should never be a question of ‘who is protecting what is yours?’.
You can protect everything by finding the best security company to work with!
There are several different ways to find the best Myrtle Beach Security company to work with.
We encourage you to
and connect with several companies to compare rates & service offerings.
Support local. Get the best!
