For many law enforcement agencies, crime spikes during the summer. Crime statistics indicate warmer cities, however, often don’t experience much change. The question of whether cheap security systems can protect you in an emergency is a simple one.
The answer is ‘Yes, cheap security systems CAN protect you in an emergency, however…’
As always, there’s a caveat to such a question.

The problem with cheaply made products is that they are… well… cheap!
In other words, cheap security systems might not last as long and replacement costs can thus drive up your total cost.
If you are in the market for an upgrade and you want to go cheap, be forewarned that cheap systems often don’t integrate well with older systems or any system for that matter. When you are out and about and you see cameras at the following commercial locations
do you feel an immediate sense of safety and security?
Sure you do!
Most of these establishments have REAL cameras and are recording your activities, some are even monitoring your activities in real-time.
Would it make a difference to you and how you’d feel if you knew any number of these cameras were fake? Would you be able to detect if any of these cameras were fake? Would you avoid those commercial locations if you knew there were no real cameras recording your every move?
In retail stores, gas stations , car dealerships, restaurants and gyms, often cameras are used to prevent theft, as well as to protect their employees.
In schools and banks, often these cameras are used to keep employees and customers safe from harm first and foremost, and of course also help deter crime such as theft.
At home, home owners who have cameras report feeling a higher level of security then those without, especially if the cameras are connected to the monitoring system and the camera feed is accessible from a remote location.
If a burglar detects cameras while casing a home, s/he most likely will stake out a different home.
However, if this crime is to be a crime of opportunity (as in; they see you leave, or they know you are on vacation, or at work), most often the criminal does not care whether you have any cameras, as it will be a quick come and go.

So fake cameras are just that, fake. A professional burglar can and will detect the cameras and identify them as fake quickly. Even those with the blinking red lights and those that move – or should we say, especially those with blinking red lights and those that move, randomly?
Once these fake cameras have been identified as fake, a burglar will continue their plan to break in with more confidence.
If a crime does take place, real security cameras can provide the police with a solid description of the criminals by the recordings. For obvious reasons, fake cameras will have no such footage and thus will yield no description of any criminal.
Real security cameras connected to your monitored alarm system can provide real-time updates on an on-going crime and then alert those who are monitoring your system to call for help an back up, in real time and with detail! Using your security camera feeds, the company can spot the number of assailants in the home as well as the weapons they carry and where they are located in the home. This information can be relayed to the police to aid in apprehending the suspects and keep you and your family alive.
To sum it all up, fake security cameras give a false, or fake, sense of security.
Fake security cameras do not prevent crime.
Fake security cameras might deter a fraction of potential crimes, but will be of no use in a dangerous situation.
