Do Fake Security Cameras Prevent Crime?

DO fake security cameras prevent crime?

Do You Feel Safer When You Detect Cameras?

When you are out and about and you see cameras at the following commercial locations

  • restaurant
  • car dealership
  • retail store
  • bank
  • gym
  • school
  • gas station

do you feel an immediate sense of safety and security?

Sure you do!

Most of these establishments have REAL cameras and are recording your activities, some are even monitoring your activities in real-time.

Would it make a difference to you and how you’d feel if you knew any number of these cameras were fake? Would you be able to detect if any of these cameras were fake? Would you avoid those commercial locations if you knew there were no real cameras recording your every move?

In retail stores, gas stations , car dealerships, restaurants and gyms, often cameras are used to prevent theft, as well as to protect their employees.

In schools and banks, often these cameras are used to keep employees and customers safe from harm first and foremost, and of course also help deter crime such as theft.

At home, home owners who have cameras report  feeling a higher level of security then those without, especially if the cameras are connected to the monitoring system and the camera feed is accessible from a remote location.

Home Security Cameras – Who and What Are You Deterring?

If a burglar detects cameras while casing a home, s/he most likely will stake out a different home.

However, if this crime is to be a crime of opportunity (as in; they see you leave, or they know you are on vacation, or at work), most often the criminal does not care whether you have any cameras, as it will be a quick come and go.

With cameras installed and visible, you are deterring potential burglars, but not deterring professional criminals.

So what about just adding fake security cameras strategically places on the outside of your home?

Will fake security cameras prevent crime?

The answer is YES and BUT.

YES, fake security cameras will prevent some crime BUT there are a few important things fake security cameras can not do for you!

via GIPHY

Here are 3 Things Fake Security Cameras Can Not Do

1) Prevent All Crime As These Cameras Are Easily Detectable

So fake cameras are just that, fake. A professional burglar can and will detect the cameras and identify them as fake quickly. Even those with the blinking red lights and those that move – or should we say, especially those with blinking red lights and those that move, randomly?

Once these fake cameras have been identified as fake, a burglar will continue their plan to break in with more confidence.

2) These Camera Can Not Provide Proof of the Crime

If a crime does take place, real security cameras can provide the police with a solid description of the criminals by the recordings. For obvious reasons, fake cameras will have no such footage and thus will yield no description of any criminal.

3) Provide Real Security

Real security cameras connected to your monitored alarm system can provide real-time updates on an on-going crime and then alert those who are monitoring your system to call for help an back up, in real time and with detail! Using your security camera feeds, the company can spot the number of assailants in the home as well as the weapons they carry and where they are located in the home. This information can be relayed to the police to aid in apprehending the suspects and keep you and your family alive.

To sum it all up, fake security cameras give a false, or fake, sense of security.

Fake security cameras do not prevent crime.

Fake security cameras might deter a fraction of potential crimes, but will be of no use in a dangerous situation.

3 Important Reasons Your Business Needs a Panic Button

You might know an elderly person with a personal panic button.

Don’t we all remember the first commercial (1987) with that famous line:

“I have fallen and I can’t get up”

Personal panic buttons are wonderful and enable our seniors and disabled citizen to live a more independent life then they would without.

a personal panic button for personal safety

However, panic buttons are not just for personal use (or for banks). Regular businesses could and should consider installing panic buttons in their place of business. Not convinced? Let us show you the ways…

3 Important Reasons Your Business Needs a Panic Botton

A Panic Button is Cost Effective for your Business

What does this mean? Many businesses spent lots of money on safety and security of their goods, but not on the safety and security of their employees. However, if an employee gets hurt on the job, or worse, cost skyrockets. Getting a quick response time during emergencies can help save a life. A panic button at your place of business can summon help quickly when 9-1-1 can not be called from a phone.

Why your business needs a panic button

A Panic Button Protects If the Threat Comes from Within

Businesses put up barriers like gates, buzz-in systems and steel doors to prevent criminals from entering their building. Businesses add security cameras and security systems to further deter criminals from stealing, loitering and attacking. However, what happens if the threat comes from within the business? From someone who is already inside the business, maybe a coworker or trusted delivery person? While current events show us that no one is safe from harm, no matter where you live and where you go in public (a concert, a bank, a school or a movie theater), a panic button can help those who are in a dire situation quickly!

A panic button can safe the lives of your employees

A Panic Button Promotes Workplace Safety

When your company deals with the public, and customers come into your place of business for a service or a product, and you have a slew of ‘random strangers’ coming through your door like it is a revolving door, it is imperative that you protect your employees as well as your customers from potential danger. A panic button near the cash register, or strategically placed around the workplace, or even on your manager or person-in-charge will allow a call for help within seconds of an emergency. Often it is seconds, not minutes that can make the difference between life and death. Employees who feel save at work perform better.

Protect those who work for you with a panic button at your business

Do you own a business on the Grand Strand, in the Myrtle Beach area? We would love to come talk to you about installing panic buttons in your place of business. From our own personal experience, we know how important this back up is.

5 Reasons To Never Install A Security System

5 reasons to never install a security system in Myrtle Beach

Are You Wondering (and Researching) Whether You Need a Security System for Your Home or Business?

Stop. Wonder no more! Research no more!

You’ve found it! The answer to many of your questions and the place to ask more questions. We are right here in the Myrtle Beach area. We are local and we have the answers to your security questions!

For your convenience, we have compiled a list of 5 reasons you might have never thought of! These are 5 reasons you do NOT need a security system! How cool is that?

We know that many (new) home owners struggle with this issue – to install or not to install and we decided to make this easy on you. Just check off any of the reasons and if even just one applies, don’t get an alarm system for you home or business.

1) You Don’t Care About Your Stuff

Everything you own can be replaced, including your antiques and heirlooms. It doesn’t matter how much you’ve worked for it, or how much money you spent on it, or who gave it to you – you are perfectly willing to part with any and all items in your home. Whether you lose them because of a home invasion, a burglary or a fire, you are good!

2) You Love Working With Your Home Owners Insurance On Claims

You don’t mind dealing with your home owners insurance to try to replace stolen valuables and broken windows, locks and doors. You don’t mind having to pay your deductible out-of-pocket and you honestly don’t mind spending hours arguing with your insurance over claims.

3) You Carry A Weapon On You Everywhere, Including in Your Home

You have a concealed weapon’s permit and you carry your weapon on you at all times, wherever you go, even in your home. You carry it on you and even when you sleep it’s on your person. You have it loaded – ready to use even in the dark of night. You don’t need a security alarm to sound if an intruder where to enter your home. You sleep on one ear for the very reason!

4) You Trust Everyone Who Works for You

You trust every single employee you hire right from day one; you trust them with merchandise, your customers and your money. Without training your staff, you just know they will do right by you and your company. You also know they would never (unintentionally) leave a door or window unlocked when they lock up for the night because you know they care as much about your business as you do!

5) You Never Ever Go on Vacation or a Weekend Trip

You are home every night of every week of every year and you just never leave your home unattended at night. Why would you ever leave? You work from home so your home is never unattended. How cool is that? Grocery trips and shopping trips to the mall are short and sweet because you know, your home needs you!

5 reason to never install an alarm system

All craziness set aside…

You need a security system if you value your home, your business and your family!

Security systems do more than ‘alert you’ when your system is breached!

Monitored Security Systems

✓ Call for emergency services when you are incapacitated

✓ Call for emergency services in case of a fire
✓ Call for emergency services in case of carbon monoxide poisoning

✓ Alert the home owner when not home

✓ Alert the business owner when not at work

✓ Allow you to monitor your property via your smartphone

✓ Can turn your home into a Smart Home

COPS Monitoring Mission

Their mission is as follows:

to put highly trained caring dispatchers together with state-of-the-art technology

Alarm System Monitoring; How Does It Work?

Curious? Here is what happens each time something is triggered.

  1. One of your detection devices such as a magnetic door contact, a motion detector, a glass break detector or a smoke/heat detector is violated and activates the alarm.
  2. Your security system sends a signal to COPS Monitoring.
  3. The computer network at COPS Monitoring Central Station identifies the system and routes the alarm to a COPS dispatcher. The dispatcher has immediate access to all your info, including contact info for local authorities.
  4. The dispatcher will call the designated number, aks if you need emergency assistance and ask for a passcode. No answer, or no passcode means local authorities will be dispatched.
  5. The dispatcher will call your pre-arranged responding call list.
  6. The dispatcher reports the results of
    a) calling your home, business
    b) calling your responding call list
    c) notifying your alarm company (Strand Security)
  7. COPS Monitoring maintains a record of all alarm report activities.

Again We Ask You. Who is Watching Your Home?

We hope it COPS Monitoring!

How To Protect Your Home While You Travel The World

How to protect your home whike you are traveling the world Myrtle beach Alarm Systeme

It’s Almost Christmas Break Time; Will You Be Traveling?

Only a few more weeks and the Christmas holiday is here! Even though not everyone can take two full weeks off from work, many people get at least a few days or a week off to spend time with their families over Christmas break.

Whether you spend Christmas at home and travel later, go ‘on location’ to a warm climate, take the family on a ski trip or spend Christmas day at ‘the happiest place on earth’, reality is that when you aren’t home, someone is sure to be looking at your property!

Preparation Can Deter and Prevent Crime and Home Disasters, Too!

We’ve covered this subject before, several times, yet when we watch the news, we feel so bad for those affected by break-ins, fires and other home disasters.

What can you do?

You can take preventative measures to do everything in your power to prevent and deter criminals before they decide to enter your home and you can prep your home to prevent leaks, fire and other home disasters!

Here is a list to help you get started!

How to protect your home while you are away this holiday season - Myrtle Beach Security System
13 Things To Do To Prepare Your Home Before you Travel

  1. Install a security system with 24hour monitoring for crime and fire!
  2. Install security cameras wired into your security system to get a live feed of your home.
  3. Post a ‘protected by….’ security sign in a prominent place outside your home.
  4. Don’t announce your trip on social media.
  5. Hire a home sitter to take care of your home, or stop all your mail, newspaper delivery and package deliveries!
  6. Don’t leave your trashcan sitting at the curb.
  7. Put your lights on timers.
  8. Lock all doors and double check to make sure your windows are locked as well.
  9. Turn off your main water valve right before you leave on your trip.
  10. Check the batteries in your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors if they aren’t hard-wired into your system.
  11. Tell your neighbors of your plans and how and where you can be reached.
  12. Leave a few kids toys or dog toys out on the lawn or in the backyard.
  13. If you have a dog, or even if you don’t, leave a dog bowl or leash by the back door.

Now doing all of these things on this list can not completely prevent crime or home disasters like fires, floods or wind damage, but the thing is, if you have a monitoring service and cameras, at least you’d be alerted the minute something were to be happening in your home.

For example, in one of our local Myrtle Beach neighborhoods there was an unattended home during the ice storms of 2015. After the ice melted, water was seen gushing out of the house from under the garage door. Clearly, a pipe or water heater had broken (most likely a pipe as the water kept running and running) and neighbors tried – in vain – to reach the home owners who, as it  turns out, were out of the country. We can only imagine the damage that was done to that home with water gushing out for days!

A simple conversation with a friendly neighbor would not have prevented the disaster but would have notified the owner and stopped it much quicker.

Think You Can’t Afford a Security System?

How Much Does A Security Alarm System Cost?

How Much Does a Security System Cost?

We get this question often, both here in Myrtle Beach and in Maryland. People just like you want to know if they can afford to have a security system installed. Our answer is

If you want a security system for your home or business, we can help make it happen!

The first step is always taken by the customer – you as the customer have to understand the value of a security system. Once you understand how a security system can protect your family, how it can help you save money in your business and how it helps deter and prevent crime from happening in the first place, you can come talk with us, the experts on security systems!

Think You Can’t Afford a Security System? Think Again!

Many Americans have some sort of disposable income. A disposable income is

“income remaining after deduction of taxes and other mandatory charges, available to be spent or saved as one wishes.”

How are you spending your disposable income? Are you keeping track of the movie tickets you buy, the Mocha Lattes you purchase and drink, the new jean you bought, those candles you loved and purchased for your home…

Do you have a general idea where you are spending the majority of your disposable income?

Take a look at this #infographic to see if you can find ways to come up with a bit of extra cash each month.

How Much does a security system cost?

We’ve identified 5 places where you could possible save a bit of money to pay for an alarm system if that’s what you are determined to do – and we sure hope you see the value in a home security system like we do!

Coffee

Instead of stopping at those expensive gourmet coffee places on your way to work and purchasing a Mocha Latte, buy a pound of coffee and brew your own! You can save big money doing this consistently – enough to pay your monthly monitoring bill!

Out To Eat

The average bill for eating out is $12.17 p/p per meal! Stay in one night per month instead of going out to eat as a family of four and you’ve more than covered your security system bill!

Alcoholic Beverages

A bottle of wine or a case of beer; whatever you are drinking isn’t cheap! Cut back a bit each week and by the end of the month you’ll have the money you need to keep your family safe!

Smoking

This is where you can save big money! Cutting back certainly will do the trick but quitting will not only give you enough money to install a security system, you’ll be able to afford the best system money can buy including cameras, and still have money left over!

Shopping

Most of us set a budget for ourselves when we go out to ‘shop’. Whether that budget is for clothes, food or fun, we bet there is plenty of wiggle room. Think about the things you want but don’t need and replace some of the ‘wants’ with ‘I need a security system to keep my family safe’ and this should be an easy choice!

You Can’t Afford NOT to Have a Security System!

The way we see it is this; when disaster strikes it is (almost) too late! Why wait to protect what you love most?

How to Help Reduce Crime In Your Neighborhood

How to help

Do You Live in a High or Low Crime Neighborhood?

It is most likely you will know the answer to that question.

Many of us know before we move in if the neighborhood we are moving to is a relatively safe one, or not. However, some of us might have bought a home in a neighborhood a long time ago and this neighborhood was known as a safe neighborhood yet as time went by, this changed! Some neighborhoods took a dive after the last big recession in 2008 and never recovered. Other neighborhoods are simply overrun by gangs and the violence gangs bring with them.

In the Myrtle Beach area and on the Grand Strand, certain areas, towns and neighborhoods definitely have a higher crime rate than others.

But don’t be fooled by the word ‘safe’; even the ‘safest neighborhood‘ isn’t immune to crime!

Crime Happens Everywhere!

Yes.

Crime happens.

Crime happens everywhere.

Crime happens everywhere and you can’t always prevent it.

Yet sometimes you can prevent crime from happening or reduce the overall crime rate in your community and that’s what we’ll be talking about in this article.

Can I Really Help Reduce the Crime Rate in My Neighborhood? Is It Really this Simple?

Yes!

Today we’ll be giving you just three ways to start because you have to start somewhere, right?

Every single action you as an individual make, will have a ripple effect on your neighbors and so on. One person needs to start and many will follow. Small changes can make big impact.

Will you be the one who will take initiative?

Three ways to help reduce crime in your neighborhood. Myrtle beach crime prevention tips

Here Are Three Ways To Help Reduce Crime in your Neighborhood

1. Get To Know and Work Alongside Your Neighbors For Improvement

What this means is that getting involved with (or starting) community events is step one, followed closely by step two; starting some sort of neighborhood watch, neighborhood patrol program or even a neighborhood advocacy group. Through activities, neighborhoods can (re)build social control and increase citizen accountability for the actions of residents and their children. Take advantage of “safety in numbers” to hold group activities to show you are determined to drive out crime and drugs.

2. Deny Criminals Access To Public Spaces In Your Neighborhood

Work together to keep playgrounds, parks, yards, alleys, ball fields and streets clear of criminals. Do this by forming a task force to patrol these areas after dark and by reporting suspicious activity not only to police, but also to all citizens in your neighborhood; when the community is involved in watching out for each other, less crime happens. Signs that warn criminals of safety patrols and neighborhood watches help prevent some of these crime from taking place!

3. Report Vandalism Immediately and Clean It Up Quickly

When vandalism happens report, report, report! You want the police involved because you want these crimes solved fast. You do not want repeat offenders, correct? The next step after reporting vandalism is to get together with your community, your neighbors and clean it up. Leaving it be just isn’t an option if you want it to stop. Reporting and cleaning up vandalism signals a few things to the criminals involved. First, that you have noticed the vandalism. Second; that you are serious about stopping it. Third; that you have pride in your neighborhood and vandalism isn’t going to stop it.

Security Cameras Deter Crime and Help Solve Crimes

We have to mention, of course, that installing security cameras in public spaces is a huge step you can take in deterring criminals! Security cameras installed at ball fields, parks, playgrounds and on streets help solve crimes. As for your own home, a security system can do a lot for peace of mind! 24/7 monitoring will make you be and feel so much safer.

Let us know if we can help you come up with a plan for your neighborhood!

Why You Need To Replace Your Batteries Now!

Does Your Home Have Smoke Detectors?

Replace your smoke detector batteries now to keep your family safe!

Today is the Autumn Equinox and since this day is the start of a ‘change’ of season, we are using this date to remind you to change something very important in your home!

If you own your home, and even if you rent, you should be aware of the date you last changed your smoke detector batteries.

Go ahead. Think of the date. We’ll wait a minute…
Can’t recall when it was?

Most people when asked when they last did change their smoke detector batteries will either say

I don’t recall

or

When the alarm started to chirp in the middle of the night because the battery was low

Neither of these answers is a very good one!

If you are the responsible adult in charge of the home you need to not only know this, but you need to have a plan to make sure your smoke detectors work when an emergency arises!

Happy Fall - Tak e the time to check your battries and replace the once that need replacing!

Prevention and Detection Are Key To Getting Out Alive During A Fire!

We want you to be safe!

We have a super simple plan for you to implement RIGHT NOW to keep your smoke detectors in working order when they are needed.

Here’s the plan:

  1. Go to the store and by a multipack of batteries (most smoke detectors take 9V batteries)
  2. Replace all batteries in all smoke detectors in your home today.
  3. Pick up your Smartphone. Either place a reminder to change the batteries again on ‘this date one year from now’ in your Google calendar, or in whatever reminder app you might use.

Done!

Why You Need To rplace your smoke detector and carbon monoxide batteries now

Carbon Monoxide Detectors Batteries Need To be Replaced As Well!

If this is the first time you’ve heard about Carbon Monoxide Detectors and if you aren’t sure about what they are, what they do and why your home and business needs these, read this first!

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a deadly, colorless, odorless, poisonous gas that is produced by the incomplete burning of various fuels.

Many people install carbon monoxide monitors that you plug-in to the wall or run on batteries.

Of course, these batteries need to be replaced, too!

While these kind of detectors are great (it’s better to have those than no sensors at all!), they do not have the ability to call for outside help when needed if you are incapacitated.

Therefore, if you have a security alarm system, we recommend hooking up the carbon monoxide sensors right to your security alarm; the carbon monoxide levels in your home or business will be monitored 24/7!

We at Strand Security use Honeywell Total Connect™ for this and as we read on the Honeywell Total Connect™ website

System Sensor carbon monoxide (CO) detectors provide the highest level of CO protection available. Our system-connected devices enable 24/7 central station monitoring that ensures occupants or building management will be alerted if the detector goes into alarm, is disabled, or has reached its six-year end-of-life and needs to be replaced. Furthermore, this system monitoring provides an extra level of protection in cases when occupants are unable to respond to the alarm.

Run To The Store and Get Your Batteries Today!

Whether you decide to change your batteries today, or if you want to wait until the first of the month, the MOST IMPORTANT part of this is that you will ACT and DO IT as soon as possible!

Would you ever go drive your car with a broken seatbelt, or broken brakes?
Would you allow your child to ride a horse or a bicycle without a helmet?
Would you go an a boat that had no life jackets?

NO!

Get the batteries, replace them ASAP and be secure in knowing you are protected in case of an emergency!

A Mandatory Evacuation Leaves Your Home Unattended, or Does It?

When a mandatory evacuation is called for, it's hard to leave your home and business behind. Keep an eye on the homefront with Honeywell Total Connect!

Hurricane Hermine, go away!

This is what we are dealing with in Myrtle Beach right now as Hurricane Hermine is rolling in this Friday afternoon.

Pretty scary road conditions, right? And according to the local Myrtle Beach news stations and the Weather Channel, this is JUST the beginning.

This is also ‘just’ a category 1 hurricane turned tropical storm by the time it fully hits the Grand Strand.

Are you prepared for when the next storm hits?

What if the next one is the big one?

Do you know what to do and how to prepare?

When The Big One Hits; You Might Encounter a Mandatory Evacuation.

If you are new to the area or if you’ve never lived in a hurricane zone before now, you might never have experienced a mandatory evacuation before and let us tell you; it’s scary to leave everything you have behind – everything but what fits into your car.

Depending on where you live and your flood zone, you might be one of the first families asked to leave.

There are many ways to prepare for a possible evacuation and all we can say is; plan, prepare and be ready!

But once you leave… it might be a while before you allowed back into your neighborhood!

How Will You Know What’s Happening at Home?

Well, most people don’t know how things are back home once they evacuate! It’s one of the more scary things to encounter during hurricane season – beside losing power, flash floods, falling trees and loss of electricity… just to name a few things that can go wrong.

Here’s another scary thing about the mandatory evacuation; your neighbors will be evacuating as well and no one can keep an eye on your home and your property, or can they?

We Have C.O.P.S Monitoring Our Homes, Even During Natural Disasters and Hurricane Evacuations!

Mandatory evacuations during a hurricane is scary. Leaving your home behind is even scarier. We have a solution on how you can keep tabs on your home and your business, even if you need to evacuate!

You heard that right!

If you have a Honeywell Total Connect security system in your home, YOU and YOUR MONITORING SERVICE will BOTH be able to keep an eye on your home!

Through the mobile app you will be notified of windows breaking, zones going out and if you have security cameras installed, you can do a physical check on your property as well!

You can do this from your phone or tablet and from the safety of a dry, warm hotel room or a relatives’ home; far, far away from the path of the destructive hurricane!

With Honeywell Total Connect you’ll have peace of mind like few others have when a hurricane rolls in!

Have a plan and be safe!

SIDE NOTE:

If you are a business owner, you will most likely have additional worries and concerns during a mandatory evacuation! It’s imperative to the continued success of your business that you not only have a security system in place during the next hurricane that rolls in, but that you also have a set of security cameras to record and show you in real time what’s happening in your business.

The only world we need to mention is ‘looting‘ and you’ll know what we are talking about!

5 Steps To Take When Choosing A Security Company to Help Protect Your Business

5 steps to take when choosing a security company for your business

Security Should Be a Business Necessity, Not a Luxury!

We know how much time, money, sweat an yes, tears it takes to start a business – we are business owners ourselves.

When creating your business plan, we are confident you created a working budget based upon projected sales and services rendered.

Whether you have a storefront, a large retail store, a restaurant or an industrial park location, security and safety should be high on your list of priorities – for yourself and your employees!

If we could wave a magic wand, we would grant EVERY SINGLE BUSINESS OWNER a state-of-the-art security system with cameras. From experience with working with many, many, many local Myrtle Beach and Maryland business owners, we know that security systems and cameras can help with staff turnover, theft prevention, training and much much more.

All of these issues cost money – so by having a security system in place, you can actually safe money!

When you are ready for a security system for your business, you’ll want to work with the best company!

Make sure the security company you are going to work with is

  • local
  • accessible and responsive
  • using the latest technology

Buyer Beware! 5 Steps to take when choosing a security company to help protect your business! Myrtle Beach Security.

Here are 5 Steps We Suggest You Take When Choosing A Security Company to Help Protect Your Business

(If you are already close to choosing a company, we suggest you do 3, 4 and 5 immediately!)

1. Check Services They Offer and Talk To Their Staff

If, when you call this company, you are being treated rudely, they are not the company to go with.

If, when you call this company, you can not get any answers via phone, they are not the company to go with.

If, when you call this company, they just want to sell, sell, sell, they are not the company to go with.

If, when you call this company, they do not offer the services you request but they want to sell you something you do not need, they are not the company to go with.

If, when you visit this company, you are treated with disrespect, they are not the company to go with.

If, when you visit this company, you find their showroom lacking and their staff disinterested in you, they are not the company to go with.

If, when you visit this company, you find staff lacking in knowledge, they are not the company to go with.

BUT… if you love what you hear when you call, if you like the responsiveness of their staff, if you like what they offer – you are on the right track!

2. Ask A Local Business Owner What Company They Use

There is no better ‘judge’ than a fellow business owner when it comes to selecting the right security company. Next time you network at the Chamber or any other networking event, ask around!

Make sure to ask specific questions like

  • How long did installation take?
  • How many people came to install your system?
  • How was the follow-up process?
  • Did you receive training on your product and system?
  • Are you still happy with this company and their customer service?
  • Did you get good value for your money?
  • Do you remember the name of the person who installed your system?

You’ll know by their answers whether you’d like to work with this company, too!

3. Check Their Online Presence, Including Online Reviews

Once you have a few names of security companies, check out their online presence.

[If they have no online presence at all – that’s a red flag!]

Check to see if they have a website, a blog, a Facebook Page and reviews on Facebook, Yelp, Google+ or anywhere else.

NOTE: Not every single online review has to be a positive, 5 star review. What you are looking for is a responsive company who takes customer service seriously, offline as well as online!

4. Contact The Better Business Bureau

When you are just about ready to go and sign a contract for services, place a call to the Better Business Bureau if possible. It can’t hurt and sometimes it helps prevent you from making a huge mistake!

5. Visit Their Location

Last but not least, a lot of information can be gained from driving to (or by) the location of the security company you want to work with!

  • Does this company have a sign outside?
  • Do they have branded work trucks with their logo?
  • Does the property look nice and inviting?
  • Does this security company have a showroom?

If all the answers are YES – you are most likely dealing with a reputable and established security business!
